After catching up on some much needed post-TCAF rest (full festival write-up coming soon. Spoiler: It was AMAZING) I was delighted to find a really great review of Silly Kingdom written by Matthew Szewczyk of “First Comics News.”

In it he compares SK to the first issue of Bone (a high compliment as Bone is one of my all time favourite comics) and writes:

“This is a book that you will want to buy for that young reader in your family to introduce them to the joys that can be found within the covers of a well done comic book. I have a feeling that once they are done with Silly Kingdom that they will be a comic book fan for life.”

I’ve come up with a new plan to get Una the Blade out into the universe. I’m going to collaborate on short stand-alone stories with some of my most talented artist pals. The plan is that each 20-page digital issue will contain a short story drawn by a friend and the rest of the issue will be drawn by me. So far the roster includes:

Thomas N. Perkins IV

Katie Shanahan 

and a few other possibles yet to be announced.

Michael May (writer for Robot 6 and other comic websites) wrote up a good review of the “Cautionary Fables and Fairytales” comic anthology my brother Shaggy and I are apart of, and had some super nice things to say about our story “Tatterhood.” Here’s an excerpt from the review which can be read over on the School Library Journal website. :F

Issue 56

The Joe Shuster Canadian comic creator award ceremony is happening THIS Saturday in Montreal as part of the Montreal Comic Con, and I’ll be there representing “Silly Kingdom” for both the “Gene Day” (self publishing award) and “The Dragon Award” (Comics for Kids). SO DANG EXCITED(nervous)GIDDY!!! Wish us luck :O

Being in head-down-animation-storyboard-deadline-mode all summer I completely neglected to do a post about this… Flight volume 8 has been nominated for a Harvey Award under the Best Anthology category!! YAY!

The Harvey Awards are named in honor of legendary cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman- the founder of Mad magazine, and according to the website these are the only industry awards both nominated and voted for by comic professionals.

SO! If you’re a comic pro who’s enjoyed reading the Flight series, and if you’ve enjoyed my brother’s and my comics/videos/shenanigans please consider voting Flight 8 for “Best Anthology.”
